In the past, I have bought many Gardenia's from many garden supply stores and inevitably the leaves always start to yellow and the plant dies a slow death. I have felt hopeless, as I watch one leaf after another, yellow and fall off. I have transplanted them into potting soil to no avail. I recently bought another Gardenia in a moment of weakness, because the plants looked so healthy, and I day dreamed about the luscious smelling flowers that I hoped it would sprout. Within a couple of weeks, this plant's fate met with the others, and it's leaves started down the dreadful yellow brick road. I did some research and found that the soil is so important, it must have the right balance of magnesium, nitrogen and iron, among other micro nutrients. Basic potting soil for indoor plants and flowers is not adequate and the Gardenia will not survive, as I can sadly attest to. After some research I came across "Rooting for you" Premium Gardenia potting mix. They have a host of other specialty soils but this soil has jolted my Gardenia back to life, it is thriving and there are tons of new leaf growth! They have their soil products down to a science and I can't wait for my Gardenia flowers to bloom and fill my rooms with their intoxicating incredible smell.
